GeM Registration Guide 2026: Documents, Steps and Timeline

GeM registration itself is free and fully online. What slows most businesses down is document readiness and category mapping — not the portal. If your papers are in order, the process takes about 20–30 minutes of form filling, followed by GeM's verification window of 2–5 working days.

Documents you need before you start: PAN of the business (or proprietor), GST registration certificate (required for most taxable goods and services), Aadhaar of the authorised signatory, bank account details (cancelled cheque or bank certificate), and — if you have them — your Udyam/MSME certificate and any quality certifications relevant to your category.

Step 1: create the seller account at gem.gov.in using your mobile number and email. Step 2: complete the organisation profile — legal name exactly as per PAN, registered address, and authorised signatory. Step 3: map your business verticals and categories. This step matters more than any other: buyers search GeM by category, so a wrong mapping means your products never surface.

Step 4: bank account verification. GeM validates your bank details, and this is where mismatched names (PAN name vs bank name) cause the most rejections. Fix any mismatch before submitting. Step 5: add your catalogue — product or service listings with specifications, HSN/SAC codes, pricing and delivery terms.
